Organelle Division: Dynamin-Related Proteins in Apicomplexans
نویسندگان
چکیده
Establishing an infection within a host requires efficient invasion and division. In the intracellular parasite Toxoplasma gondii, these functions are mediated by dynamin-related proteins with a unique evolutionary history.

The Arabidopsis chloroplast division protein DYNAMIN-RELATED PROTEIN5B also mediates peroxisome division.
Peroxisomes are highly dynamic organelles involved in various metabolic pathways. The division of peroxisomes is regulated by factors such as the PEROXIN11 (PEX11) proteins that promote peroxisome elongation and the dynamin-related proteins (DRPs) and FISSION1 (FIS1) proteins that function together to mediate organelle fission. In Arabidopsis thaliana, DRP3A/DRP3B and FIS1A (BIGYIN)/FIS1B are t...

Mitochondria and plastids have their own DNAs and are regarded as descendants of endosymbiotic prokaryotes. Organellar DNAs are not naked in vivo but are associated with basic proteins to form DNA-protein complexes (called organelle nuclei). The concept of organelle nuclei provides a new approach to explain the origin, division, and inheritance of organelles. Organelles divide using organelle d...
متن کاملDynamin Functions and Ligands: Classical Mechanisms Behind.
Dynamin is a GTPase that plays a vital role in clathrin-dependent endocytosis and other vesicular trafficking processes by acting as a pair of molecular scissors for newly formed vesicles originating from the plasma membrane. Dynamins and related proteins are important components for the cleavage of clathrin-coated vesicles, phagosomes, and mitochondria. These proteins help in organelle divisio...
متن کاملThe Arabidopsis tail-anchored protein PEROXISOMAL AND MITOCHONDRIAL DIVISION FACTOR1 is involved in the morphogenesis and proliferation of peroxisomes and mitochondria.
Peroxisomes and mitochondria are multifunctional eukaryotic organelles that are not only interconnected metabolically but also share proteins in division. Two evolutionarily conserved division factors, dynamin-related protein (DRP) and its organelle anchor FISSION1 (FIS1), mediate the fission of both peroxisomes and mitochondria. Here, we identified and characterized a plant-specific protein sh...
متن کاملARC5, a cytosolic dynamin-like protein from plants, is part of the chloroplast division machinery.
Chloroplast division in plant cells is orchestrated by a complex macromolecular machine with components positioned on both the inner and outer envelope surfaces. The only plastid division proteins identified to date are of endosymbiotic origin and are localized inside the organelle. Employing positional cloning methods in Arabidopsis in conjunction with a novel strategy for pinpointing the muta...
